HOLLYWOODREPORTER.COM AND THE INTERNET MOVIE DATABASE (IMDb.com) PARTNER TO SHARE CONTENT; NEW SERVICES LAUNCH TODAY
(September 17, 2002 - Los Angeles) The Hollywood Reporter and the Internet Movie Database (www.IMDb.com), two leading entertainment industry news and data providers, have signed an exclusive multiyear agreement to share content and cross-promote services on their respective Web sites, HollywoodReporter.com and IMDbPro.com, a professional subscription version of the popular IMDb.com Web site. Starting today, users of each site can access selected news stories and data from the other site in an integrated fashion, thus receiving increased industry intelligence with fewer clicks.
Specifically, users of HollywoodReporter.com can access a search feature to find HollywoodReporter articles as well as search IMDb's industry-leading film, television and talent credits database. Results will be displayed on HollywoodReporter.com, with links to IMDbPro.com for expanded information.
On IMDbPro.com, subscribers will have access to daily headlines, articles, reviews, boxoffice data and production listings from TheHollywood Reporter. Providing unprecedented context, all of this information is indexed on IMDb.com for more than 300,000 movie titles and more than 1 million actors and filmmakers.
The two companies are launching this round of services as the first step in the new partnership. The Hollywood Reporter and IMDb are currently working on more advanced features that will leverage their brands on each site and provide users with even more content and useful functionality.
"We are excited about partnering with IMDb to create a dynamic set of online services for the entertainment industry," said Robert J. Dowling, editor-in-chief and publisher of the trade paper. "As Hollywood's first Internet news provider, The Hollywood Reporter has a proud history of electronic innovation. This alliance underscores our commitment to assembling unique news and data products and delivering them seamlessly."
"This is really exciting because our services are so complementary," said Col Needham, IMDb founder. We are a technology company focused on gathering, organizing and presenting expansive data for movies and the people involved in making them. Combining this with The Hollywood Reporter's newsgathering abilities, insightful analysis and reviews is very powerful for our users."
