I think I've become an effective executive because of my drive, passion and commitment to the business, traits any good executive must have to succeed. Being a woman in real estate for 31 years, I've experienced many different reactions to my participation in the industry, but in the end I think most view me as "just a regular guy" who can get it done.
Today, it's all about liquidity. However, the smart strategies started before the crisis began. For BRE, the key is to maintain balance sheet flexibility to survive the credit market dislocations that occur every so often, providing us with the opportunity to get through the crisis (perhaps a bit bruised and battered) and to grow again. The current crisis is like nothing any of us have experienced before, but the companies that get through it will be stronger for it.
